Group Policies

We encourage a safe and welcoming environment for all of our families. Please take a moment to familiarize yourselves with the policies below.

Sick Policy

To help protect the health and well-being of all students, families, and teachers, we ask that students refrain from attending co-op classes, field trips, or group park days under the following circumstances:

  1. Fever: If you have a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, please stay home until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

  2. Productive Cough: If you have a cough that produces mucus or is persistent, please refrain from attending classes until the cough improves or is diagnosed as non-contagious by a healthcare professional.

  3. Congestion or Discolored Nasal Discharge: If you have nasal congestion that is not clear, please stay home to prevent spreading illness. You may return to classes and events once the nasal discharge is clear and your symptoms are improving.

  4. Digestive Upset: If you have experienced vomiting or diarrhea within the last 48 hours, please stay home and return to class only once you have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours.

These measures are intended to prevent the spread of illness and ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone. If you are unsure whether you should attend class, we encourage you to consult with a healthcare provider.

Thank you for your cooperation and consideration!

Allergy Policy

Food Sharing Policy for Student Events

To protect the health and safety of all students, the following policy has been put in place regarding food sharing at SE WI Homeschoolers events:

Policy Overview

Food sharing is strictly prohibited at all group events, including lunch bunch after co-op classes, field trips, and any other gatherings where food is consumed. This policy aims to prevent the risk of food allergies and cross-contamination, ensuring a safe environment for all students.

Reasons for the Policy

  • Allergy Risks: Many students have food allergies that can lead to severe or life-threatening reactions. Sharing food increases the risk of exposing students to allergens.
  • Cross-Contamination: Even trace amounts of allergens, such as peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, or gluten, can trigger allergic reactions. Sharing utensils, snacks, or meals can inadvertently cause cross-contamination.

Guidelines

  1. No Sharing of Food: Students must keep their own food and snacks to themselves. They should not offer, trade, or share food with others during events, including lunch breaks, parties, or any gatherings involving food.

  2. Personal Food Safety: Students are encouraged to ensure their food is clearly labeled if brought from home, especially if it contains allergens that may pose a risk to others.

  3. Event-Specific Rules: If food is provided by the event organizers (e.g., catered lunch, snacks), it will be pre-approved and will meet allergy-friendly standards. Students should not share or exchange food that is not part of the official event offerings.

  4. Parent/Guardian Responsibility: Parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring that any food their child brings is safe for consumption and does not pose an allergy risk to others. We also ask that parents reinforce the importance of not sharing food with peers.

Exceptions

In rare cases, where food-sharing is a part of a planned cultural or educational activity (e.g., specific class activities), the event organizer will ensure that all food items are allergy-friendly and safe for all students. These events will be communicated to parents in advance.

Enforcement

Event organizers, teachers, and staff will monitor food practices during events. Students found violating this policy by sharing food may be asked to dispose of the shared items and may face further disciplinary action if necessary.

Conclusion

This policy is designed to safeguard the health and safety of every student and to foster a responsible, allergy-aware community. We appreciate your cooperation in making school events safe for all participants.

Thank you for understanding and supporting this essential safety measure!

Photos Policy

In an effort to keep all of our group members safe, we invite you to share photos in our Facebook group as long as there are no faces present. Examples of appropriate photos include:

-Field trip location pictures

-Group shots (either from behind or with faces blurred out)

-Action shots (again where no faces are shown)

Seeing active photos is an important part of any group, but we need to share with safety in mind!

Abilities Policy

We know that all families homeschool for a variety of reasons, including due to your student's developmental and mental abilities. It is expected in all co-op classes that if your student needs additional assistance that the teacher is unable to give, you will be asked to step in an assist your student in the activity.

Field Trip Etiquette

We understand that illnesses and life happen. Please familiarize yourself with the below options for contacting someone regarding field trip and event attendance or for any other matter.

1. You can direct message Amber or Kay or the field trip host 2. You can send a message through the SignUpGenius link for the trip3. You can send an email to sewihs1@gmail.com 4. You can post directly to the group page and tag an admin

Going forward, our trips will operate on a 2 notice rule. If you miss a field trip with no communication we will contact you. If it happens a second time, you will be removed from the calendar and from the group.
